Over the last few days I have been planning ahead and thinking about which artists will feature in upcoming boxes. This is great fun but also quite challenging. With a whole world of art history to choose from it is difficult to know where to begin. It is important to find artists whose work children will identify with. I know that I would find it very hard to be inspired by something I fundamentally didn't like and it is no different for children. The story and background of the artist also needs to resonate. One of the reasons I chose Hundertwasser as our first artist is because I felt his completely free approach and constant asking 'why' would appeal to children as they do this naturally. I am very aware that our subscribers will come from a range of backgrounds with their own ideas of what they do and don't like when it comes to art. My challenge is to represent this in my selections so that all of our subscribers can find an artist who speaks to them and spurs on their creativity.
Right, now back to my art books...!
